At Cooper Flatboats, we provide authentic keelboat and flatboat replicas. For over 30 years, we’ve been building period-accurate flatboats and keelboats that were personally researched, designed, and built by Captain John Cooper and his hand-picked crew. His designs and completion of the flatboats include outfitting with period equipment. The materials of the flatboat are researched for the area, time period, and purpose for which the flatboat is to be used.
The journey of each individual flatboat determines many things. For example: the material used, how it is to be built, where it is to be built, and the design of the flatboat. We have built flatboats for museums, states, cities, private organizations, film crews, photo shoots, and private individuals. With over 30 years of experience in forestry, carpentry, and historical reenactments, as well as substantial experience as a general contracting instructor for a local college, Captain Cooper is perfectly equipped to provide your organization with precisely the flatboat or keelboat specifically for you or your organization’s needs.
About Cooper flatboats
Captain Cooper has been building, transporting, floating, and educating the general public on flatboats since 1985. In addition to the full size, fully functional and Coast Guard approved flatboats, Captain Cooper builds museum quality boat models. River trips include film crews, photoshoots, and private individuals. All flatboats and models are completely outfitted with period “rigging” and pioneer equipment. Models are fit to scale according to the needs of the individual or museum.
